City Workers Stress Increases – Hypnotherapy Helps Stress Management

When things go well for any of us, happiness and a sense of control are feelings that we welcome and enjoy. However when times are difficult and work colleagues are being made redundant, with your workload increasing and needing to perform at a higher level, stress can suddenly creep up on you along with a perception of a loss of control.

Stress Soars Among City Workers

Many city workers, according to a Sunday Times article called “Boom time for therapists as stress soars among young City workers”, are feeling the anxiety and stress of trying to maintain their success and keep their jobs. In the old days from the 80′s and 90′s and feeling of “burnout” used to hit city workers in the mid to late thirties. With the current market turmoil workers in the city of London are feeling this way in the twenties.

Stress-related illnesses are growing and of course a kind of domino effect happens. As a colleague or two take time off to recover from their stress, more pressure is felt by those who still struggle into the office and have to cover for their absent colleagues.

When you add in the reduced spending power of individuals since the VAT rate hit 20% and bills for energy and food have increased, the sense of financial pressures adding to the mix can tip anyone over the edge.

Options for Stress Management

If you have contemplated some form of escape from the pressures you feel, then it is important to seek help now and not later. A visit to your own doctor is always a good start to discuss what options that are available to help you. The good news is that you will not have been the first to experience stress, anxiety and worry and that others have found a way of coping and so can you.

Self Hypnosis for Stress, Anxiety, Worry

Hypnotherapy and particularly the regular practice of self-hypnosis has been shown to help reduce anxiety and stress and promote a feeling calmness and relaxation. When we feel calm we feel more in control and the world seems like an easiest place to be in. Our relationships improve too as all too often we take out our anxiety on our loved ones.

Sleeping patterns can be improved too. As you worry less, you are much more likely to have a better night’s sleep. Sleep is one of the most important aspects of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that alcohol or drugs can provide a solution. They may seem to provide some relief but this is only short-term and will lead to long-term problems and even dependency or addiction.

There is nothing quite as empowering as taking action when you are facing a difficult time.

Hypnotherapy in London for Anxiety

As an experienced London hypnotherapist I have helped many people from the financial quarter in London as well as from other industries who are finding life difficult to cope with. With a free initial consultation, without obligation, you can find out more about hypnotherapy without having to commit yourself.

This may well be your first step to recovering a healthy balanced lifestyle and feeling in control of your destiny. Who can put a price on happiness?

Learn Emotional Freedom Techniques – EFT London

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is based on a therapy that has been used for thousands of years, namely acupuncture. EFT was developed by Gary Craig. Gary wanted to make EFT simple so that anyone could use it to help themselves and others.

What is EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)?

In acupuncture small points on the body relate to specific parts of the body (eg kidney, liver, heart, etc). The chinese believe that the body contains meridian lines through which flows energy known as Chi. Anyone into martial arts you will have heard of chi before. When we have an ailment, whether that is physical (eg. headache), emotional (eg. anger) or psychological (eg. low confidence) issue in the body, the Chinese practitioner believes that there is an associated blockage in the flow of chi. Undoing that blockage and allowing the chi to flow again is the aim of acupuncture, acupressure and of EFT.

When you learn EFT in London, instead of using needles, the person who is undergoing treatment has their acupuncture points manipulated. In acupressure (Shiatzu) these points would be rubbed or pressed. In EFT these points are merely tapped on. This is why EFT is sometimes called “Tapping”.

How does EFT work??

When we think of something that scares us or gives us anxiety, whether it’s that meeting you have to speak at, best man’s speech or even attending a social engagement, you get associated feelings connected to that thought. For some people their fear will be flying or taking an underground tube train. During a therapy session of EFT in London, when a person focuses on these thoughts and gets the associated feelings, the acupuncture points are gently tapped. This seems to have a positive effect. People notice a change in their feelings and perceptions about that event or experience.

People find that previously nerve-wracking events no longer have the same effect on them. EFT in London has been used to help people release trauma from past events and negative experiences as well as future events.

What Do people seek EFT in London to help with?

The range of issues and problems that my clients have used EFT in London is quite vast. Typically though issues might be to help build better self esteem, depression, bereavement, self confidence, worry, anxiety, stress, frustration, anger, fears, phobias, relationship issues, weight control, stop smoking and many other life issues.

Coupled with hypnotherapy at my practice, EFT in London makes for a powerful combination.

Public Speaking – a modern phobia

Most of us will have to do public speaking at some point in our lives. Speaking publicly in some form will be something that most of us will have to face up to. This might be the groom’s or best man’s speech at a wedding. It might be presenting your work to colleagues in a meeting. You might have to provide some training to new personnel. Whatever your occupation or lifestyle it can be difficult to avoid public speaking.

Most Popular phobia = Public Speaking

The most popular phobia in the UK is a fear of public speaking. Unfortunately, those people who use avoidance as a way of coping with public speaking opportunities just add to their fears, anxieties and nerves about speaking in a front of others. Public speaking confidence is a bit like a muscle. The more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes.

Sometimes a person can trace back in their personal history to an event that seemed to start their public speaking phobia. Typically this could be a teacher who embarrassed you in front of your school mates. It could be that at college or university you were not well-prepared for your presentation and you lost your way and felt embarrassed.

Typical Public Speaking Reactions

Sweating

Shaking

Shakey Voice

Memory Loss

Heart Palpitations

Wanting to flee

Whatever your history might be, and however long you have suffered from fears about speaking in front of others, the good news is that it is possible to overcome this phobia. It is possible for you to become more confident when speaking in front of anyone and believe it or not, it is also possible to enjoy public speaking.

Hypnotherapy can help you to overcome your reluctance and nerves to speak in public. In just a few sessions you can start to feel more calm and relaxed and confident when speaking to groups of any size.

Quit Stop Smoking Hypnosis

Quit Stop Smoking Hypnosis might seem like an odd title for any article on quitting smoking but there is a reason for it which may or may not resonate with you. In fact the title might well have said “Stop Quit Smoking” or a variation of “Stop Quitting Smoking”. Let me explain:-

Quitting, Stopping, Ceasing Smoking

Most smokers will have had at least one attempt at quitting smoking. Many smokers will have had numerous attempts at stopping smoking. If they or you are not careful, quitting, stopping or ceasing smoking can become just a ritual that you go through. It can be something that you do, knowing full well that based on your past attempts, you will not stop smoking for long, but at least you can console yourself with having a go at it.

Quit Stop Smoking for the Wrong Reasons

Actually there are no wrong reasons for stopping smoking if in fact you succeed in stopping smoking. However, many attempts to quit smoking fail because the original reasons for stopping were not the best reasons to quit permanently. Here are some reasons why people attempt to stop smoking but the odds are that they will start again:-

1) My girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife/partner wants me to quit smoking

2) It will save me money

3) I am pregnant

4) My doctor has told me to stop

5) My children keep nagging me to stop

All of the above reasons miss out one crucial aspect of successfully stopping smoking. They miss out your reason for you to stop smoking. They miss out your desire to stop smoking for you. You see if you stop smoking for someone else, it can lead to :-

1) Guilt because you may sneak the odd puff or smoke in secret and/or arguments in the relationship and you go back to smoking because of an argument

2) You get cheap cigarettes from overseas travel anyway or someone else who brings them back for you

3) Smoking again once your baby is born

4) Becoming stressed because of your doctor’s instruction to quit exacerbating the condition that led to your doctor’s advice to quit.

5) You smoke out of sight of your children and use mints or mouth fresheners to cover the smell

Quit Stop Smoking for Stronger Reasons

It’s important to acknowledge that seem smokers will quit smoking with the above reasons, however if you want to succeed in stopping smoking then you can help yourself succeed this time. You can do this by finding the reasons to quit smoking that are purely for your benefit. If you know you will gain personally from quitting smoking you are much more likely to stick to your decision. And that’s the crucial element, this has to be your decision. In doing so, all those secondary reasons, will be satisfied anyway.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Stage Fright Nerves and Anxiety

Stage fright, nerves, worry and anxiety will affect anyone. It doesn’t matter how many times you have done something successfully, there might come back a time when you’re feeling a lack of confidence, anxiety and nervous. Logically, you recognize you should be able to be confident but some worry or doubt has crept into your mind and you imagine the worst outcome. You may experience panic, a sense of dread, heart palpitations and a great need to run away.

Auditions and Auditioning Nerves

Now you have been invited to an audition, an opportunity that you have worked hard to secure. Yet, now comes the moment of truth and you start to worry whether you will be too anxious to show yourself at your best. As a singer you worry you won’t be able to hit those tope notes. As an actor you fret that you won’t be able to step into the character you are meant to portray. As a musician you get nervous about your musical technique.

The audition is the time when it is make or break. You know you will be okay if you succeed but so much rides on the audition that you feel overwhelmed and may even make some excuse to drop out.

Criticism Hurts and Errors are Blown out of Proportion

Sometimes you’ll trace your audition anxiety back to a past audition where they were highly critical of you. May be you have had a series of rejections and now you doubt that anyone will want you. You will dread or worry giving another poor performance or worry regarding being harshly criticised again and as a result of this you are feeling fearful and anxious.

Loss of Confidence Spreads

Now that you have lost confidence and self-belief you’ll question your acting, singing or musical ability. In doing so you may even be turning down opportunities and accepting roles that you view as less than your value and ability deserves. In accepting these lesser roles, deep down within you, you know this doesn’t help your confidence and all this is undermining your self-belief.

Regain Your Confidence, Self-Belief and Poise

Hypnotherapy in London can assist you to let go of those doubts, fears and anxieties and to regain your confidence. You very can start to be excited again by your acting, singing and performing offers and opportunities and calls for auditions rather than petrified of them. Your stage presence, command of your performance and technique can improve and take your skills to a new level.

Hypnosis is an amazing state of relaxation and when you feel relaxed you also feel better about the world. Things seem to be more easier to cope with. Self hypnosis helps to retrain your mind helping it to work in a positive way rather than a negative way. Your thinking changes from being tense or overly self-critical to a new robustness with healthy confidence.

No matter who we are and what we do, we can all experience stress, anxiety and worry. Sometimes these feelings are small and manageable and sometimes they can feel overwhelming and it may lead to a thought that you are unable to cope with life.

It’s important to know that you will not be the first or the last person to suffer from excess stress, anxiety or worry. Often, but now always, some recent event has lead to these feelings and you may not know how to deal with that event or how to reduce your stress levels. Of course it is always a good idea to speak with your doctor to seek their advice.

For many people, heightened stress can be a temporary. The event or experience that led to those feelings is dealt with or resolved and can bring with it a feeling of relief and the ability to move on from that event.

Stress Related Physical Ailments

Sometimes the event is not concluded and the feeling of stress and worry, leads to further anxiety. This can then start to affect other areas of your life. Sleep patterns might be interrupted. You might find yourself getting angry more quickly and having less tolerance of certain situations and people. You may find yourself treating people in your network, and particularly those who are close to you, in a negative way. Long-term stress may lead to various physical conditions such as ulcers, hypertension, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and many others that have a stress component to their cause.

There is a different way that though you can handle life’s challenges whilst still enjoying the good times. A relaxation process such as self hypnosis can help you experience a sense of calmness and tranquility that you may not have had for sometime. In doing so, it can help avoid sleep issues and the other physical conditions that are stress-related.

There is also a better understanding about your life that you can enjoy that can help you avoid excess stress or at least ease stress. There will always be future events and experiences that are not pleasant and can leave you tense and stressed. Why wait to have stress before doing something about it? You don’t wait for your food cupboard or freezer to be of food before adding more to it. What you’ll do is keep your food at a level that means you will always have something available just incase you need it. This is an analogy that can be useful to accept about an ability to relax and de-stress.

Future Proof Stress, Worry and Anxiety Coping Abilities

Why wait to become stressed, anxious or overly worried before seeking a solution? Practising a stress-reduction technique such as self hypnosis can mean that you are in a better position to handle stressful events. Your coping ability can be enhanced. Self hypnosis when practised regularly is more likely to take the edge of heightened stress and you can manage day-to-day irritations and frustrations differently.

Learning Self Hypnosis

Self hypnosis can be learnt quite quickly and the basics covered in an hour of help for anxiety hypnotherapy London. When you practise your self hypnosis you can fit them to match your lifestyle. For some people this might be putting aside 20 minutes a day for their self hypnosis. For someone two daily sessions lasting 5 minutes each can be the right combination. Self hypnosis is a flexible relaxation process and can fit in to anyone’s lifestyle including yours if you really want to do something about managing and reducing your levels of stress, anxiety and worry.

Immune system disorders, including asthma, eczema, psoriasis, hay fever, food allergies, lupus, multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease, have greatly increased in recent years. Experts estimate that many allergies and immune-system have at least doubled, and may even have quadrupled, in the last few decades, mainly in highly developed countries in Europe and North America.

Casual Factors of Immune System Disorders

It is suggested that causal factors may be changes in diet (junk food, processed food, high levels of sugar and fats), air pollution, lack of fresh air and exercise, and – of course – high levels of stress. We also now live in an age where we are constantly encouraged to keep ourselves, our children, and our home, spotless and sterile, thereby preventing us from building a healthy immune system.

Other causes may be modern drugs which actually deplete the immune system, especially if taken over a long period of time. These include – but are not limited to: antibiotics, anticonvulsants, antidepressants and arthritis medications.

Gene Research
Researchers at Dundee University in Scotland have discovered that people with asthma and/or eczema may be carrying a mutated gene which inhibits the protein called filaggrin from doing its job of protecting the skin, thereby allowing allergens to pass through the skin and cause an allergic reaction, causing the skin to react on the surface (eczema) or within the lungs and air passages (asthma). Once scientists can find a way of replicating the gene that produces filaggrin, they believe they will be able to cure these conditions, but this could be years away.

Taking back control of your body

Skin conditions are often the hardest to treat with conventional medicine, and many sufferers benefit from alternative treatments, such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, chirokinetic therapy (CKT)*, naturopathy and homeopathy.
*For more information on CKT, visit http://www.vitalbodyclinic.co.uk

Addressing the diet is also important. A healthy diet that includes plenty of fresh vegetables, is low in fat and has a high ratio of alkaline-forming foods, is recommended. Protein should be kept to around 10% of intake, and sugar in any form (including fructose initially) should be avoided at all costs, as well as stimulants such as tea, coffee and alcohol. Wheat, yeast, gluten and dairy products may also be reduced or, ideally, avoided, for a period of at least one month.

Food and other allergy tests may be helpful, but remember that blood tests can only give you an indication of what’s going on in your body at the moment when the blood was withdrawn. Hair analysis tests are often more reliable. One company that specialises in this field is Bionetics UK. http://www.bionetics.co.uk/

Enjoyable exercise will help to simulate the immune system, also creative hobbies and lots and lots of fun and laughter!

Reducing Stress!
Anyone who has suffered from any of these auto-immune diseases or conditions knows the discomfort and distress they produce, making it very difficult to do one of the most important things to improve the situation, and that is, to reduce stress levels. Unfortunately, this can lead to a vicious circle of trying to reduce stress>>becoming stressed by the severity of the condition>>trying to reduce stress.

How can Hypnotherapy help?
Hypnotherapy can help to identify and alleviate the causal factors of stress and anxiety. A course of Hypnotherapy – usually around 6 sessions – combined with alternative treatment such as acupuncture/Chinese herbal medicine or CKT, can produce positive results in a relatively short period of time.

Unlike creams, potions and lotions, which may bring a degree of temporary relief, or drugs that often work to suppress the symptoms and may also be harmful to the body, especially if taken over longer periods; Hypnotherapy works on the basis that the condition is not actually the problem, but instead is the symptom. By neutralising the roots and causes of the problem, the symptoms are more than likely to disappear.

Quit Smoking This Year

In late December and early January people think about what they would like to achieve in the New Year. After the possible excesses of Christmas, and with the old year out of the way many people want to make the New Year a time for achieving goals, ambitions and even dreams.

New year resolutions can come to mind and go just as quickly. The challenge is sticking to your resolution no matter what month or season of the year that you make it in. There is a difference between wishful thinking and commitment. Wishful thinking is almost hoping that the desired goal will happen almost by itself. Commitment is again having that same desire but by committing to it, it means you are going to action and responsibility for seeing it through.

Wishful thinking is vague and a commitment is more solid and tangible. A commitment brings with it definite steps you are willing to take to achieve your desire. In fact the more you plan what you intend to do, the steps you intend to take, the more you are likely to enjoy early and prolonged success.

Many smokers know that they will want to quit smoking sooner or later. Some smokers hope that they will stop but never quite get around to making a decision to do this. They may “try” to stop today, with the attitude that they will see how it goes. However invariably they will smoke again. The reason for this is that “trying” implies failure at some point in time. The idea of “trying” is to have a go at something without really putting all your effort into it or being definite about it.

Successfully Quitting Smoking

The smokers who increase their chances of quitting successfully and permanently are those who make a definite decision to quit. They decide the date that they will stop smoking and commit themselves to it. They may also decide the means by which they will stop smoking whether that is a nicotine replacement product, will-power and/or quit smoking hypnotherapy.

Smokers who succeed in finally ending their habit do so in a number of ways. The is no single method that works for everyone and that is why it is important to make up your own mind how you will quit and when. Here are some ideas on how to increase your odds of successfully stopping smoking next time:-

1) Personal reasons – write a list of the reasons that you want to quit smoking. Be specific (eg. finger stains, bad breath, lack of fitness) and don’t generalise (eg health, wealth)

2) Decide how you will stop. Willpower alone or a combination of quit smoking hypnotherapy or nicotine replacement products

3) Make a date with yourself. Choose a convenient date for you. Avoid making close to difficult events such as funerals, divorces, parties etc.

4) Don’t brag or boast to others that you intend to cease smoking. Bragging puts extra pressure on you to succeed.

5) Quit smoking because you want to. Quitting smoking because someone else wants you to do so is not a good motivator.

6) Do something new such as going to the gym, running, or dancing. This will help you to feel good and do something positive towards better health.

Tinnitus is a condition where the sufferer has ringing, whooshing or watery in the ears. The volume and duration may vary but none-the-less it is a distressing condition to live with.

Tinnitus Causes
Treatment for tinnitus (ringing in the ears) can vary depending on the assessed cause of the problem. Tinnitus can have a number of causes and any treatment provided by a medical practitioner will take into account these causes.

Ordinarily tinnitus can be caused be excessive and prolonged exposure to noise such as regular exposure to loud music at concerts or raves or using headphones. Extreme and prolonged noise from the environment or occupation can cause this to. Taking a break from these extreme noises and/or protection is usually a first step towards settling down and stopping the condition from getting worse.

Chemicals such as Benzine, Aniline, and Dichlorphenamide are known to cause problems too. Some of these chemical poisons are found in prescription medicines used for other ailments. Some chemicals are found in household goods such as Benzine in fuel and solvents. Typically the approach for chemical causes of this ear problem is decontamination. It’s important that any chemical poisoning is diagnosed by a doctor.

Sometimes excessive ear wax production is resolved by using various softening liquids administered straight to the ear or a special device is used to extract the wax

Ear infections, another cause of tinnitus is treated with antibiotics and other medications such as hydrocortisone.

With regard to a growth in the ear such as a tumour (otoscierosis) the resolution to this cause me be surgery.

Another cause may be jaw difficulties such as temporomandibular joint syndrome. A specialist who helps the jaw to realign and move in a way that does not exacerbate the problem is usually called for.

Tinnitus Treatments
To help cover up the sound of whooshing or ringing maskers may be utilised. This approach does not change the condition but provides some relief from its symptoms. In a similar way hearing aids can help too when the assist the brain to focus on sounds other than those associated with tinnitus.

The severity of ringing in the ears varies from person to person. For the chronic sufferer some drugs have proven to be effective to a degree. Unfortunately these drugs may only have a temporary effect and may bring side affects such as nervousness and anxiety.

It has been noted that stress can play a part in the severity of tinnitus. It seems that stress can make the irritation of ringing in the ears harder to bear bringing anger and frustration. Any form of stress management and reduction can make a positive difference.

Hypnotherapy has been studied as form of treatment for tinnitus particularly in controlling and reducing stress and anxiety. In February 1985 research by Marks NJ; Karl H; Onisiphorou C Clin Otolaryngol (UK) showed a statistically significant difference for tinnitus sufferers who had hypnotherapy.

Self Hypnosis and Tinnitus
Self hypnosis is a highly effective self-help process for mental and physical relaxation. When used in conjunction with other treatments for tinnitus, self hypnosis can make the condition more bearable and bring a sense of control to the sufferer. Ringing in the ears, whooshing or watery sounds, that never seem to go away are bound to test any person’s ability to cope. Self hypnosis may make that difference particularly as it is easy to learn and use..

Phantom Pain can occur following amputation of a limb, or sometimes other parts of the body, including testicles and breasts, and after removal of internal organs.

What is Phantom Pain?
Phantom Pain is a form of nerve pain with varying degrees of intensity. People most commonly experience shooting or stabbing pains, or perhaps cramping or burning.

Phantom Limb Pain (also know as Phantom Experiences) is the need to scratch or touch the amputated limb, as if it were still intact. The scientific explanation for this is the persistence of sensory maps, which include the amputated limb, still held in the sensory cortex of the brain.

An alternative view

You may already have heard about Kirlian Photography. Semyon Kirlian, who died in 1978, was born in Yekaterinodar, now Krasnodar, Russia. In 1939, while experimenting with subjecting objects to high-frequency, high- voltage, low-amperage-electric fields, he discovered that it created images that might be described as aura-like.

He took photographs with electric current and photographic film but no camera. One of his best-known procedures was done by placing a leaf on a piece of photo paper, then tearing part of it off and photographing the remainder.

Amazingly, the photographic image showed the whole leaf. Kirlian then developed an optical filter that allowed him to witness the phenomenon in real time; he and his wife witnessed miniature fireworks displays of light and colour playing around their hands. Kirlian made controversial claims that the images might be compared with the human aura.

The universal energy field

In subsequent books and scientific papers, the “phantom leaf effect” has been connected to the “phantom limb” effect, giving an intriguing explanation to the problems suffered by people with amputated limbs or even organ removal.

The theory is, that if you can photograph the whole leaf when only half of the leaf is there, it must be that the image you are seeing is the energy field of the leaf. If that is true, it would seem to suggest that the energy field around us never changes its shape, no matter what happens to our bodies.

Barbara Ann Brennan, once a research scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, talks about Kirlian Photography and what she calls the Universal Energy Field, in her famous book, Hands of Light.

Richard Gerber gives an insightful explanation into the human energy system and consciousness in his book, A Practical Guide to Vibrational Medicine.

The role of the Subconscious Mind

The subconscious mind contains the permanent memory. Every experience we’ve ever had in this lifetime (and other lives if you happen to believe in reincarnation), together with the emotions associated with each experience, is stored within the subconscious.

The unconscious mind is in charge of our Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) which controls the smooth muscle of the internal organs and glands and governs involuntary actions such as heart rate and blood pressure.

The subconscious stores emotions but not feelings, and then communicates them with the unconscious, which generates them as feelings within the physical body. Both these part of the mind have a ‘map’ or ‘blueprint’ of the body and its energy field.

When an organ or limb is removed, the conscious part of the mind knows about it, but the other parts are not always aware of the change, so they continue to operate with the old blueprint that still includes that body part.

If there has been any trauma (fear and stress), or if there is information relating to pain that was experienced, before and after the event that resulted in limb or organ removal, the subconscious will continue to send the same signals, together with the trauma emotions, into the unconscious, which in turn will generate the associated feelings in the physical body, including the ‘missing part’.

Hypnosis can help generate a new blueprint

Hypnosis is the safest and most effective way of communicating with the subconscious mind. By giving it the new information, and also working to heal any associated trauma, the subconscious will quickly update its data and communicate new information to the unconscious.

In just a few sessions of hypnotherapy, the two parts of the mind can create a new blueprint of the body, and generate more positive emotions and feelings so that the former pain or discomfort is no longer experienced, and there is no automatic reflex to touch or scratch the amputated limb.
